Two warships battling in the old style of broadsides. Notice their lack of Ballistae and Fire Launchers, don't you make the same mistake!

Naval Weapons

The Nautical Peacemakers of Alyria

Balancing your cargo and damage deals with finding a good balance of average damage output rate, and the rate at which you use up cargo, weight per second.  The units are damage per second (dps), and pebbles per second (pb/s).  Dps is calculated by (base damage)*(accuracy)/(reload time).  Pb/s is the (weight used)/(reload time).  A ratio is given of (pb/s)/(dps), which is also (weight used in one volley)/(average damage).

*NOTE:  1 damage unit equals 1 hull point.  2 hull points equals 1 shield point.

Analysis
The higher the ratio, the better your damaging firepower, but the less you can carry.  The lower the ratio, the lower your damage output, but more you can carry.  Battles of Ship PK, and battles against NPC Pirates both have optimum ratios, but I leave that to you do infer.

Application
So, what do all those numbers mean to you?  Well these numbers are based off of only one of that particular weapon firing.  You say your Super Dreadnought has 10 Basic-Cannons?  Then that means you really deal 7.6 damage per second with that weapon bank, as well as 5 stones and 15 pebbles of weight per second.  Use this math with the other banks, use some addition, and figure out how much your ship does in total.
