Pirate Ships
Pirates sail the seas in all manner of vessels, though I haven't seen a skiff or junk pirate yet, get word to me if ye do!
- All pirates have some sort of shield.
- Pirate's can careen their ships and regain hull points, (but not shield points), in between battle if you can't finish them off.
- Not all pirates carry maximum weapon banks.
- Coasters will attack all Player Ships up to Corsairs.
- Caravels will attack all Player Ships up to Corsairs.
- Drakkars will attack all Player Ships up to some Super Dreadnoughts
- Corsairs will attack all Player Ships down to Coasters.
- Dromonds will attack all Player Ships down to Coasters.
- Galleons will attack all Player Ships down to Coasters.
- Dreanoughts will attack all Player Ships down to Coasters.
- Super Dreadnoughts will attack all Player Ships down to Coasters.
Pirate Booty
Aye, pirates have booty, and lots of it. It comes in the form of gold-ingots, which ye can salvage from their wreckage. Whether they're pirates from the overworld or underground, and what size ship they had, with what kind of ship you battle them with, will determine how many ingots you can obtain. Let's not forget that they also give experience points! The Captains Siege & Fouddah have both leveled to Hero from their Pirate Hunting Exploits, being the first ever to do so! And it's quite rewarding in both these fashions to kill pirates. However, note that Hardcore players can NOT gain experience by swashbuckling.
Anti-Pirate Tactics
Since Pirates fight dirty, they often will sail in small flotillas near each other, so you must be able to withstand being attacked by many ships at once and also able to carry enough ammo to sink all of your attackers or prey; however it is usually possible to draw one off from the rest, but not all the time. With the limits of your ship's carrying capacity. Pirate Hunters from time to time won't use Medium-Cannons or the Heavy-Cannons for all the weight their cannonballs take up. Combinations of each Ballistae, Basic-Cannons, Harpoons, and Fire-Launchers have all been put to deadly use against these swashbucklers.
On another side of the spectrum, having a good officer really helps. Myself, I can embark upon solo voyages and return with the plunder from maybe 6 ships. However, when I sail with an officer, in this example it was Pirvan, we were able to sink 10 ships; that was 4 Drakkars, 4 Corsairs, 1 Dromond, and 1 Dreadnought. The rewards can be beneficial to both of ye, come to some sort of agreement as to how the gold shall be split and then hoist anchor and rig for combat!
